In 2014, April and Chris Penny decided to start a small farm off of their land in Catawba, S.C. The family began raising chickens and cows and expanded the farm after some family friends began to make requests for their products. Since then, the farm has grown into much more than a place just for animals. The Penny children play just as important of a role in daily farm life as their parents. Alex, 18, was diagnosed with Autism when he was a child. April and Chris decided to start the farm as a type of therapy for Alex. Unable to hold down a “real” job, Alex spends his days caring for the animals on the farm. Working at the farm has given him many opportunities to grow and thrive, from meeting new people to starting his own dog food business from leftovers on the farm. Additionally, Lucas, the younger of the two, learns about responsibility and leadership every day. He has also started his own business; hatching ducks and selling their eggs once they reach maturity. The love that the Penny family puts into their products is evident- and it makes all the difference.
